The majority of the power supply capacitors were failing and were replaced. All electrolytic capacitors tested and verified within spec. Best of all it has the signature sweet McIntosh sound we've all come to love. It's finished in a gorgeous champagne colored front panel with aluminum knobs and glass.įunctions include: dual phono inputs, individual left and right tone controls for bass and treble, and convenience outlets for powering other devices.īuilt like a tank and likely to outlive us all. The front faceplate glass is super clean too! There are no sigs of rust or corrosion anywhere. This example is one of the few and definitely one of the best looking 1700's we've ever seen. The Faceplate is excellent and all of the knobs are shiny and pristine. We rarely receive MAC1700's into our shop and our best guess as to why is because their owners don't want to part with them. The MAC1700 is a full featured receiver that's perfect for a starter McIntosh System or your office. That works out to $5,100+ in today's dollars! It was produced from 1967-1973 with an original retail price of $599.00. I love the looks of the Marantz' my other system is vintage tube McIntosh and I love it so both brands are tempting. This is a hybrid model receiver from McIntosh comprised of a solid state amplifier and tube tuner section. I am interested in the 2325 simply because of the raves by some (I haven't heard one myself) but it is said to be one of the best receivers ever, it is a whooopin 125wpc. The Marantz receivers all have solid state tuner sections the 2230 is only 30wpc but may be enough power. The 1900 is 55wpc with a solid state tuner section. The 1700 is a hybrid and has a tubed tuner section and is 40wpc. To my surprise the Mac 17 are in the same price range. Then I looked into McIntosh receivers which at first I did not look at because I just figured they would be tooo expensive. I've been looking at Marantz receivers in the 22xx series such as a 22 and even the famous 2325 the all seem to be well loved. I am putting together a second system (for my son) and was looking at getting a receiver instead of seperates to save a little cash and space, besides a radio in the house is not a bad idea.
